Domtar to shut Glenwood, Arkansas sawmill with 167 million board feet capacity on October 10

Domtar will temporarily shut its Glenwood, Arkansas sawmill on October 10, halting operations at a facility that produces 167 million board feet of southern yellow pine lumber annually and employs 113 workers. The company informed local officials the decision stems from low lumber prices and high interest rates, according to Pike County Judge Eddie Howard. The sawmill stopped accepting logs and will operate until current inventory is processed. Officials plan to re-evaluate the closure in December. Glenwood Mayor Billy Plyler confirmed that the shutdown is not permanent and said Domtar's Ashdown mill relayed the company's intent to pause operations until market conditions improve. The Glenwood sawmill produces dimensional lumber and radius edge decking primarily for the Southcentral U.S. construction sector. Officials also noted that limited rail access via the Caddo River railroad remains a barrier to more cost-effective shipping, impacting overall viability, as stated by Judge Howard on Facebook.
