Are Boneyards a bad idea?

In my column last week, we asked three questions.

The first two were, "Have I convinced you that boneyards are a bad idea?" and "If you have the authority, will you set about to eliminate your boneyard?"

All respondents replied "Yes."

The final question was "Can you think of other bad maintenance storage practices to tackle?"

Replies:

>Satellite stores Avoiding to inventory so WIP stays low.

>What about spare parts for out of service equipment? I have seen mills with many old cards and even old monitors and computers for automation and business networks piled around. I assume there are spare parts kept for equipment that is no longer running as well, not necessarily in the boneyard, but in spares inventory. This is stuff that will never be used but sits on a shelf somewhere.

This week's quiz can be found here.

Jim goes over the Quiz results during the Tech Center Show on Pulp & Paper Radio International every Monday.
