Valmet launches 3D fiber production for three-dimensional food packaging applications

Valmet has launched a new 3D Fiber technology for high-capacity, fast production of three-dimensional fiber-based packaging.

The Valmet 3D Fiber technology enables production of lightweight yet rigid end products including trays, plates and food packaging applications using cellulose fibers. The process design allows efficient circulation of side streams and trim waste within production. The system combines fiber layering technology, production capacity and automation, according to the technology supplier Valmet.

The technology offers wider market opportunities compared to traditional wet molded fiber packaging and supports development of demanding three-dimensional packaging solutions while maintaining high productivity and resource efficiency.

The development is based on long-term collaboration with Metsä Group's innovation company Metsä Spring, which began in 2020.
