There seem to be more dog cruelty stories on the news these days. The media has figured out this sells since the Michael Vick case drew national attention. The warning for us is that just because something is on the news does not mean it is widespread or a crisis. It just happens to be what sells news. By the way, I am a rabid (no pun intended) dog lover.

More animal stories: Did you see that PETA (The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) succeeded in stopping the eradication of pigeons at the Bengals' Stadium in Cincinnati? They say they will work with local officials to find other ways to get rid of the pests. In the meantime, I suggest you take an (old) umbrella to football games there.

And, to wrap up on this theme. Some poor rancher in Montana has been arrested for shooting wolves (on the Endangered Species List) that were killing his cattle. Has to do with some technicality in how it was done. The days when folks had some level of sovereignty concerning what happens on their own land are long gone.
