Concerning Some Holiday Gifts, Comfort and Joy for You

Thanks for all the money saving tips. A lot of us retirees are on limited income and certainly can look out for these type tips.

As for the information, I copied the article and put it where I can have it for the future.

My son works for a small company that samples the test wells around spill sites, landfills, etc and he travels across north Florida and south Georgia. He collected the points from the hotels and he and his wife then use them for get aways. His boss said for him to use them any way he wants.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Jim -

They may be a delicacy for some but not for me. Elver are baby eels and they are usually deep fried whole. They are not good eating any more than their parents for me. Tried twice and couldn't keep them down for more than an hour and then everything comes up. Not so pretty.

Thanks for some of the computer tips.

Hi Jim,

Your last Nip Impressions mentioned the best way to buy a brand new car at the right price. I bought a high end SUV a few years ago by establishing the specifications for the vehicle and then faxing them with a cover letter to every car dealership within 200 miles of my home on the last Wednesday of the month, the slowest day in the dealership business cycle, when the sales manager's monthly quota is still in question. Using the fax and not email added paper's permanence to the request-for-bids routed to the sales manager's desks. The dealers received notice that the bid would be awarded in cash at noon on the following Friday to the lowest cost seller meeting the specs. Three hundred faxes went out, 30 offers came in, half for the same vehicle located two states away as identified by the VIN. This means that the sellers planned to take their profits by trading a car on their lot for the SUV and overcharging the ultimate buyer of the traded car. By Friday afternoon I owned the exact new vehicle that I wanted and paid $9000 less than the best price I could find using either the Internet sites or going head to head with the dealers.

And look how valuable paper was in this transaction--you used over a ream of copier paper (2 sheets x 300 faxes) bought by others and saved yourself a boat-load of money. Congratulations!

Hello Jim,

Will you ever get a chance to make a trip to Newfoundland, Canada? If you do, stop in to Corner Brook Pulp and Paper. I would like to have lunch with you sometime. Always interesting information contained in your emails.

Be happy, too, Todd, if I get up that way on my own. By the way, I accept a limited number of trips per year to mills for reimbursement of travel expenses only (I am a cheap date). I like to visit mills and talk, and I'll be happy to hang around a day or two and talk to your professionals, shift teams and so forth, in a formal setting or just out in operations. Contact me for arranging such a visit.

Jim
