Explosion causes chemical spill at International Paper facility in Mississippi

RICHLAND, Mississippi (Mississippi News Now) -- A dust explosion happened around midnight Thursday at the International Paper facility in Richland.

This caused a small fire inside.

Officials said that a second explosion happened around 6 a.m. Thursday, resulting in a chemical spill.

The chemical that was spilled is caustic soda solution.

Richland Fire crews are on the scene, as well as ambulance, and MDEQ.

The Mississippi Department Environment Quality is also on the scene cleaning up the spilled chemicals.

Nobody was inside at the time.
