Metsä Spring advances wood fibre packaging with Amcor and G. Mondini

Metsä Spring, Metsä Group's innovation company, takes a significant step forward in wood fibre‑based food packaging through a strengthened collaboration with Amcor, a global leader in packaging solutions, and G. Mondini, a specialist in complete food packaging lines.

The collaboration brings together Muoto™, Metsä Spring's novel moulded fibre packaging solution, Amcor's advanced barrier liners and top‑web films, and G. Mondini's packaging machinery expertise into a fully integrated tray system for protein and chilled ready‑meal applications.

The solution will be featured at Interpack, Europe's largest packaging event, from 7-13 May in Düsseldorf, where it will run live on G. Mondini's Trave® Streamline machine.

Engineered for high‑performance food packaging

Designed for modern food packaging, the Muoto™ tray combines exceptional quality, built‑in sturdiness and recyclability, using renewable wood sourced from northern forests. Combined with Amcor's innovative barrier solutions, the system supports modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) and skin technologies, helping to protect perishable foods and extend shelf life while reducing plastic use. Added convenience features include microwaveable, ovenable and easy‑peel options.

"Our collaboration with Amcor began about a year ago, and it is highly rewarding to see this partnership - together with the valuable contribution of G. Mondini - now delivering tangible results," states Antti Valtonen, VP, Muoto project at Metsä Spring. "This collaboration shows how the right partners can bring together performance, reliability and suitability for demanding food applications."

The integration of Metsä Group's wood‑processing expertise, Amcor's barrier technologies and G. Mondini's machinery know‑how shows how fibre‑based packaging can be scaled for demanding food applications without compromising performance.
