GERMANY (News release) -- Sappi Europe has completed the closure of Paper Machine 1, Paper Machine 4, Offline Coater 2 and Sheet Finishing at its Alfeld mill in Germany following a consultation process initiated in July.

The measure will result in the reduction of approximately 180 positions through unfilled vacancies, voluntary agreements, and redundancies.

The asset closures are part of a strategic effort to align production capacity with market demand and improve the mill's cost competitiveness. The Alfeld site will now focus its production on specialty and high-barrier papers, with deliveries to customers continuing without disruption.
