Sappie Skowhegan, Maine paper mill responsible for river oil spill

MAINE (From news reports) -- The Sappi paper mill in Skowhegan was the source of an oil spill in the Kennebec River this past April.

A forensic analysis of the oil in the river by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Coast Guard found that it matched fuel used at the facility.

The DEP is working with federal regulators on possible enforcement actions, according to Deputy Commissioner David Madore.

He says the DEP is also pursuing violations connected to fuel storage at the facility.
