Sofidel Improves its Environmental Performance in Global Carbon Disclosure Report

PORCARI, Italy (News release) -- Sofidel has further improved its performance on the CDP Report 2018, a global disclosure system that enables companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their environmental impacts. Sofidel was awarded an A- rating in the Climate Change category and an A- in the Forests Timber category, earning the company a place among the report's top scorers (Leadership).

In the Paper & Forestry sector, Sofidel ranked among the top businesses in the Climate Change and Forests Timber categories and scored significantly higher than the global averages, a C for Climate Change and B- for Forests Timber.

In 2017, the Sofidel Group obtained a B rating in the Climate Change and Forests Timber categories.

CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, is an international not-for-profit organization present in 50 countries that provides a global disclosure system for measuring, disclosing, managing and sharing environmental information that investors can use in decision-making processes. Based in the United Kingdom, CDP serves more than 650 institutional investors with $87 trillion in assets. In 2018, over 7,000 companies worldwide disclosed through CDP. The report is available online at this link.

Sofidel began operations in the United States in 2012 and today is present in seven states: Nevada, Florida, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Ohio and Pennsylvania. In 2017, the U.S. market accounted for more than 14 percent of Sofidel's revenues. Last October, Sofidel inaugurated an integrated plant in Circleville, Ohio, its largest, most modern and sustainable facility to date. A new integrated plant is currently under construction in Inola, Oklahoma.

The Sofidel Group places strategic importance on sustainability for development and growth, with the goal of reducing the impact its business has on the environment and boosting the benefits it produces for society. Its objective is to manufacture products with an ever more reduced ecological footprint and at the same time an increasingly high level of efficiency.

The first tissue paper manufacturer in the world to join the WWF Climate Savers project, Sofidel reduced its direct emissions of carbon dioxide by 20.6 percent between 2009 and 2017, thanks to investments in energy efficiency, and the use of cogeneration plants and renewable energy sources. It also sources 100 percent of its pulp from independent third parties with forest certifications (FSC®, FSC Controlled Wood, SFI®, PEFC™).
